The llamas are running wild! Can you untangle this farm fiasco?
Help kids understand the tricky topic of multiplication by solving visual problems.
Kids build number fluency, develop strategies for multiplication, and learn properties of operations as they sort rowdy animals into arrays of different sizes.
Arrays (grids with equal rows and columns) are a classic thinking tool used to model, investigate, and build multiplication facts. They are also a key part of 3rd grade math.
CONTENT AND FEATURES
Llama Drama contains 3 learning pathways - structured sequences of mathematical problems that get more challenging as learners progress.
All the key concepts are clearly explained using voice over and animations. Each problem includes supporting instructional materials and hints if learners get stuck.
THREE TOPICS
1) Animal Arrays
Play with arrays! Learners connect equal rows with multiplication problems and discover that different arrays can be created with the same amount of animals. Kids split arrays and add them together, setting a foundation for understanding and using the distributive property.
2) Multiplying Llamas
Use arrays to solve multiplication problems and solve missing factor problems (e.g. 5 x ? = 15) while practicing the commutative property. Explore number facts and make your own arrays.
3) Divide and Capture
Use arrays to solve division problems, reinforcing the link between multiplication, missing factors, and division.

COMMON CORE STANDARDS
3rd Grade CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.OA.A.3
Use multiplication and division within 100 to solve word problems in situations involving equal groups, arrays, and measurement quantities, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
3rd Grade CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.OA.B.5
Apply properties of operations as strategies to multiply and divide.2 Examples: If 6 × 4 = 24 is known, then 4 × 6 = 24 is also known. (Commutative property of multiplication.) 3 × 5 × 2 can be found by 3 × 5 = 15, then 15 × 2 = 30, or by 5 × 2 = 10, then 3 × 10 = 30. (Associative property of multiplication.) Knowing that 8 × 5 = 40 and 8 × 2 = 16, one can find 8 × 7 as 8 × (5 + 2) = (8 × 5) + (8 × 2) = 40 + 16 = 56. (Distributive property.)
ABOUT LUMIO
Lumio is a collection of kids educational apps targeting tricky math topics in fun ways.
The apps introduce learners to key concepts using concrete models and familiar but quirky contexts. Abstract ideas come to life for kids using targeted touch interactions.
Lumio apps are fully tested with parents, teachers, and kids. Find out more about our beta testing group at lumiokids.com.
